We all have a best friend, but nothing compares to our beloved pups. Dogs have been loyal pals of humankind for more than 12,000 years.

On a side note, did you know that dogs have the enzyme maltase, an enzyme required in the digestion of starch? Wolves do not possess this enzyme leading researchers to believe that all that people food transformed the dog digestive system.

Because dogs are such close companions to millions of people around the world, it is only natural to want to occasionally treat them to a hike. Before treating your dog to a hike, it is important to follow these 5 dog hiking tips, so that your hike goes off without a hitch.

5 of The Best Dog Hiking Tips

1. Know Your Dog’s Limitations

Not every dog is built the same. While taking your Golden Retriever for a hike may be a no-brainer, taking your Pekingese should be avoided. Smaller dog breeds may tire easily and could look like a tasty treat to a hungry, nearby predator. Speaking of Pekingese, dogs that belong to the Brachycephalic (flat-faced) family can find it difficult to breath when faced with strenuous activity. So it may be best to avoid taking your Pug, Pekingese, Bulldog, or any other of the brachycephalic breeds on a hike.

2. Visit The Vet

Regardless of your dog’s protests, a trip to the vet is never a bad idea. Before taking your furry friend on a hike, it is best to have him/her checked for any underlying conditions like a heart murmur, arthritis, etc. A vet can write a clean bill of health for your pooch or advise against a hike. Your vet may also advise certain vaccinations that protect against local pathogens, fungi, or parasites. While it may seem like an overly protective measure, a trip to the vet could make an enormous difference in the enjoyment of your dog on their hike.

3. Get Your Dog Acclimated To Hiking

If your dog is a seasoned hiker, you can skip this next step. For those who are taking their dog for the first time, it is essential to make sure your dog is acclimated to rigors of an extended hike. While your dog may be used to going for long walks in an urban or suburban setting, hiking often implies walking up and down elevated and uneven trails. This level of physical demand could be something your dog has never experienced before. In the same vein of how you want at least a few weeks to prepare for a marathon, your dog requires and deserves the same level of preparation. Start by taking your dog on a short and easy trail to build stamina and work your way up to the real hike.

4. Study The Trail and Regulations Before Embarking (Get it, bark!)

The old saying “fail to plan, plan to fail,” still holds true. Plan your day out with Fido first, including a quick check of the weather report, what trail is best for the both of you, where to have lunch, and if there have been any recent bear, wolf, or mountain lion sightings. Furthermore, make sure to read all park regulations before setting of with your dog. Some trails may require your dog to be on a leash at all times. Additionally, while you should always pick up after your dog, some trails may actually require you to. This means a park ranger is well within their rights to fine you for not following the rules. The last thing you want is to have your day ruined because you failed to follow the rules.

5. Don’t Forget To Pack A Dog First-Aid Kit

Accidents are lurking around every corner. So, while you may pack a first aid kit for yourself, don’t forget to pack one for your dog as well. Make sure to pack any prescriptions your dog takes, non-adhesive bandages, your vet’s phone number, and some antibiotic ointment. Be mindful of your furry friend’s energy level throughout the hike and always check for ticks. While emergencies are rare, it’s important to prepare for the worst in order to have the best time possible.

With the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of the CBD industry expected to rise to over 21% in the next seven years, many CBD products have received a lot of attention. One of the most popular products in the CBD industry is tincture.

According to the market research firm Research And Markets, the global market for CBD tincture will experience a 40% increase from 2020-2025. Find out what is fueling this meteoric growth in CBD tincture and the 5 tincture uses that are total gamechangers when it comes to relaxation, pain-management, and everything in between.

What Is A CBD Tincture?

Before delving into the 5 game changing uses of a CBD tincture, it’s important to define what tincture is. To really get a full understanding of CBD tincture, you should reference are two previous articles on the subject:

How To Use CBD Tincture And Why We Love Them

CBD tincture is a Cannabis extract that is derived by using alcohol. The high-proof alcohol naturally extracts the cannabis compounds from the plant. At this point, the CBD tincture is very bitter as it is largely comprised of strong alcohol. Typically, flavors are added to mixture for human consumption. These flavors often range from berry flavors to vanilla, birthday cake, cotton candy… the list goes on.

When asking what CBD tincture is, many confuse CBD oil with tincture. In fact, the two are not the same. While CBD tincture is an alcohol-based mixture, CBD oil is created by using an inert carrier, like coconut oil to extract the CBD, terpenes, and flavonoids.

Furthermore, while it is recommended to ingest CBD tincture sublingually (under the tongue), CBD oil can be administered orally or even topically.

What Is A Broad Spectrum CBD Tincture?

Generally speaking, broad-spectrum CBD is one of the three main forms that CBD products come in. Broad-spectrum CBD contains a wide variety of different compounds from the cannabis plant except for one major compound – THC.

For people worried that THC may show up in a drug test or they do not want the feeling of “getting high”, broad-spectrum CBD products do not contain THC. Broad spectrum CBD tinctures are often teeming with powerful terpenes, flavonoids, and CBG, but rest assured that you won’t feel under the influence.

What Is A Full Spectrum CBD Tincture?

Full-spectrum CBD encompasses every part of the cannabis plant. This means that terpenes, flavonoids, and yes… THC are present. Although THC is present in full-spectrum CBD products, CBD legally cannot contain more than 0.3% of THC. This means that in relation to marijuana products that contain between 50-90% THC, the level of THC in full-spectrum CBD products is still astronomically low.

Full-spectrum CBD tincture is often used for pain relief due to its widespread anti-inflammatory properties. Some even use the product for its anxiety reduction as well. Just be mindful that THC can show up in a drug test after taking full-spectrum CBD.

What Are Some CBD Tincture Benefits?

Because CBD tincture is just another version of a CBD product, it contains a wide variety of benefits. CBD products have been used to treat insomnia, anxiety, chronic pain, nausea, low appetite, and even seizures.

Because CBD tincture is preserved with Alcohol, the average shelf life for a tincture is around 3-5 years, a much longer shelf life than most CBD products. In general, CBD may aid in relieving pain, reducing anxiety, alleviating acne, and aid in the fight against widespread medical ailments like diabetes, high-blood pressure, psychosis.

Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, has quickly become one of the most popular holistic remedies in recent years. But is CBD legal in all 50 states? The answer to this question has been a long-standing debate for many CBD users across America, mainly because the legality of cannabis (or marijuana) and its derivatives (like CBD) can be a confusing realm to navigate.

Cannabis has been illegal for decades, but there is a lot of pressure to legalize it across the country. We are now beginning to see the push for legality pay off, with more states welcoming the idea of dispensaries.

When it comes to the legality of CBD, it’s important to remember that even though CBD may not be federally regulated, each individual state has their own laws and regulations on what substances are considered legal versus illegal.

To ensure you’re staying within the law while using CBD products, we’ve broken the status of all 50 states, so you have all the info needed to know if CBD is legal where you live!

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid compound found in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds unique to cannabis that can present several benefits to the body.

Although CBD doesn’t have any psychoactive effects, it does interact with your endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a vital system in the human body that regulates certain systems and functions in the body. Examples include maintaining homeostasis, regulating mood and sleep, inflammation, appetite, and metabolism. The ECS works because there are cannabinoids produced naturally by the body that activate CB1 and CB2 receptors throughout the body. Similarly, cannabinoids like CBD can bind to such receptors, which then can trigger the ECS.

When it comes to CBD products, CBD can be purchased in many forms including capsules, tinctures, topicals, and smokable products.

CBD and the 2018 Farm Bill

The 2018 Farm Bill has been one of the most monumental legislative moments in recent history, opening a whole new world for hemp and CBD enthusiasts. The passing of this bill officially listed hemp-derived CBD as legal. Due to its THC content being much lower than that found in marijuana (less than 0.3%), it was removed from Schedule I substances and is now federally legalized for all 50 states to use.

Where is CBD legal?

USA Map
Infogram

The legality of CBD varies from state to state and is influenced by a variety of factors. This is due in part to the fact that industrial hemp and marijuana have different regulations. Industrial hemp, for example, is legal to grow and distribute in the United States. In contrast, marijuana use is still regulated by many states, although some states are becoming more accepting.

When it comes to states that have legalized the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes, you may wonder is CBD legal in these states as well? In short, yes. Despite having restrictions or bans on marijuana use, all states allow the use of CBD for medicinal and recreational purposes. It’s also important to note that CBD is legal at the federal level, but when it comes to state laws, every state has the right to regulate the use of CBD.

In the next section, we’ll break down the states in which CBD use is “illegal” — and by that, we mean the specific regulations that may inhibit you from purchasing CBD in your state.

Where is CBD illegal?

While all states allow the use of CBD, there is still a handful that restricts its recreational use and has implemented specific rules that local citizens must follow. One example of this is the THC content found in CBD products. For example, some states limit the use of recreational CBD to those that fall below a THC content of 0.3%. On the other hand, some states allow up to 0.9% THC content, but only in CBD products that are intended for medicinal purposes. There are even some states that completely restrict recreational CBD and instead only allow CBD to be sold when it is for medicinal use.

Another unique example of state restrictions can be seen in Wyoming where CBD is legal only when it is derived from hemp and contains less than 0.3% THC. This is because cannabis still maintains its status as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act due to its ability to produce psychoactive side effects.

Where can I purchase CBD products in my state?

If CBD is legal for recreational usage in your state, you can find CBD products (those derived from hemp at least) in any local smoke shop, gas station, or health food store that carries CBD products. In the event you can’t get to a shop, most CBD brands are entirely accessible online, you can even purchase your favorite CBD products right from home.

While there’s no one better option over the other, going to your local CBD distributor can offer the perk of personalized customer service to help you choose the right product, strength, or flavor for your needs. Some may even let you sample products to see which you like best before you make your purchase!

In contrast, a brand’s website can offer unique bits of information that a local shop might not be able to. For example, you’ll get a full lineup of honest customer reviews and background information on the brand’s harvesting, production, and manufacturing methods.

Is CBD legal and can I use CBD products?

CBD is a natural supplement that can be used as an alternative to prescription drugs as it is not addictive and won’t get you high. CBD has been touted by users for being able to help with pain relief, anxiety, depression, sleep problems, and other health conditions.

With the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, CBD was officially removed from the list of Schedule I substances at the federal level. Since then, all 50 states have accepted the use of CBD products for medicinal purposes, while others have also made it legal to purchase for recreational use. Due to the varying state-by-state restrictions, we recommend checking your state’s guidelines before purchasing or ordering any CBD products.

Heart disease is a major health issue in the United States and causes 1 in 4 estimated deaths annually, making it the leading cause of death in the country.

There are different factors that can cause heart disease, such as high blood pressure, chronic stress, poor diet, family history, and smoking tobacco. For those who have been diagnosed with heart disease, common treatment options include medication, surgery, and natural lifestyle changes.

In recent years, studies have welcomed the idea of cannabidiol (CBD) as a potential, all-natural aid for heart disease. These studies have shown that CBD may have a promising positive impact on heart health by reducing inflammation, blood pressure levels, and stress throughout the body. Keep reading to learn more about heart health and some of the studies connecting CBD and heart disease.  Check out our all-in-one infographic to learn more and don’t forget to share it!

CBD and Heart Disease: Can CBD Help? by Hempzilla

The cortisol stress hormone

Before we dive into the research, let’s take a look at cortisol — a hormone released by the adrenal gland in response to stressful situations, which has also been linked to high blood pressure and heart disease when produced incorrectly.

Cortisol has many functions in the body, including the ability to regulate blood pressure, glucose levels, and metabolism. It is also successful in reducing inflammation. During periods of stress, individuals with normal, functioning cortisol levels will exhibit an increase in cortisol, which will return to normal after the situation has passed. For those with irregular cortisol levels, whether it’s too much or too little, there can be serious health consequences.

Some signs of cortisol issues include:

An overproduction of cortisol is often a direct result of chronic stress. When the body is in a constant state of alert, cortisol steps in repeatedly to boost glucose levels because glucose provides energy to fuel a fight or flight response. These consistently high levels of cortisol and glucose can lead to increased blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar, which are all risk factors for heart disease.

Can CBD lower blood pressure? What the research says about CBD and heart disease

According to one study, it was reported that even a single dose of cannabidiol had the potential to reduce blood pressure. The study was a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study that involved nine healthy male volunteers. After receiving 600 mg of CBD or the placebo, it was observed that the small dose of CBD can reduce both resting blood pressure and blood pressure levels associated with stress.

CBD has also been touted by users for its relaxing and anxiolytic (anxiety reducing) effects. Because increased blood pressure is often tied to stress and anxiety, it is thought that CBD could effectively combat such physical responses. Another study called Cannabidiol as a Potential Treatment for Anxiety Disorders found that stress-induced heart rate and blood pressure spikes were reduced when CBD was introduced.

Although more research is needed to back these claims, these study results are promising for CBD and heart disease.

CBD and blood pressure medication: which is better?

Many people take medication to help control high blood pressure levels. Common blood pressure medication classes include diuretics — those that help the body release excess salt and water — and beta-blockers, which work to reduce overall heart rate. While such prescriptions have proven successful in lowering blood pressure, they can also produce a myriad of side effects like dizziness, headaches, fatigue, and nausea.

Unlike these medications, it is thought that CBD could offer an all-natural alternative with minimal reported side effects. CBD has also been touted for its effectiveness in helping with chronic pain, anxiety, sleep issues, and more. The best part about CBD? You can buy it over the counter with no prescription needed!

When it comes to comparing CBD and blood pressure medication, it is important to note that CBD research is still being conducted to determine its potential role in reducing high blood pressure. If you are considering CBD as an alternative solution for a heart disease condition, you should discuss with your doctor beforehand to ensure it’s right for you.

How does CBD work?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of over 100 compounds found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD doesn’t produce any psychoactive effects. Instead, its effects tend to be more therapeutic and can help with reducing inflammation, relieving pain, and achieving sounder sleep.

CBD works by promoting the body’s natural endocannabinoid system (ECS) through interactions with CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are mainly found in the central nervous system, while CB2 receptors are mainly in the peripheral nervous system. Both of these systems aid in different processes and functions, including sleep, mood, appetite, and the immune system.

In addition, the body naturally produces cannabinoids, so it already has an affinity for cannabidiol. Therefore, when we introduce the additional cannabinoids in CBD to the body, it is thought that they can boost the productivity of the endocannabinoid system.

Which CBD product is best for me?

CBD is available as a wide range of products — from topicals and tinctures to gummies and vape pens. For those looking for a fast solution, smokable CBD products and tinctures are likely to reach the bloodstream faster than edibles. If you want to find the best product for you, we recommend trying out various products! Keep in mind, each product varies in price and potency, which could impact your decision as well.

CBD and heart disease : Is the cannabinoid effective?

Individual CBD users often praise the cannabinoid for its relaxing, anxiolytic, anti-inflammatory effects, all of which could present benefits for heart health. Additionally, some studies have investigated CBD’s effect on blood pressure and anxiety. While the results of each point to CBD as a potential solution for high blood pressure, more research is needed in order to better understand how the molecule could play an important role in lowering the risk of heart disease.

If you have heart problems or currently take heart medication and are considering adding CBD to your routine, be sure to consult with your doctor beforehand.

So you’ve heard about CBD, but you’re not sure what it is or where to get it? We know the feeling! Whether you’re looking for something to help with pain, anxiety, or sleep — we’ve got it. If you’re vegan and want to avoid animal byproducts as much as possible, there’s a product for that too. Here’s our list of top five, must-have items for every CBD shop!

The CBD Shop Essential 5

1.) CBD Tincture Oil

Could a CBD shop really call itself one if didn’t sell CBD tincture oil? Our guess is absolutely not. CBD tincture is a liquid form of CBD that is taken via dropper. A tincture is an alcohol-based extract meaning that high-proof alcohol is used to extract the CBD from the hemp plant. As such, CBD tinctures are typically quite high in alcohol content meaning they can taste pretty bitter. Luckily, Hempzilla’s CBD shop offers a wide variety of tincture flavors including Ginger, Citrus Vanilla, Blueberry Lavender, and Orange. Always make sure your CBD tinctures include a third-party lab report to ensure the safety and efficacy of each product.

2.) CBD Edibles

CBD edibles are an absolute must for any serious CBD shop because not everyone wants to vape or use a dropper. Edibles are great for CBD users to ingest CBD in a fun and easy way. One popular CBD edible that CBD shops sell is the brownie. After all, who doesn’t like brownies? The most popular type of edible however are gummies. Gummies can come in all shapes and flavors including fruity and sour. Not only does Hempzilla sell gummies, but you can also try out CBD honey sticks. CBD honey sticks are great in a cup of tea, smoothie, and much more. Check out all of our CBD edible products here!

3.) Vape Products

Whether it’s CBD vape pens or pods, no CBD shop is complete without offering vape products. The popularity of vaping has taken off in recent years, which has resulted in customers clamoring for CBD-infused vape products. E-cigarettes such as JUUL are equipped with a pod that is filled with liquid. The liquid is heated when the pod is activated causing vapor to be released as the vapor warms up. CBD-infused vape pods are a popular way to get your CBD fix. Hempzilla offers numerous vape products including vape pens, cartridges, and the ever-popular Zilla pods. Hempzilla’s vape products can be used as a sleep aid, anxiety aid, or just for fun.

4.) Pain Relief Products

Joint and muscle pain is a common issue for people of all ages. That’s why any CBD shop that doesn’t offer CBD pain-relief products should consider adding such products to their inventory. Although the science is still inconclusive on how effective CBD is for pain and soreness, many CBD shops offer CBD for pain relief. CBD is often used in conjunction with other pain-relief products to ease symptoms. Hempzilla offers several third-party tested, pain-relieving products including a spray, gel, roll-on, and The Better Patch.

5.) CBD For Pets

The best CBD shop is one that not only offers human products but pet products as well. As with all CBD products, the science isn’t conclusive just yet, but there has been quite a bit of research on the efficacy of CBD for cats and dogs. CBD shops are now beginning to offer CBD pet products in addition to standard products. Hempzilla is one of those brands at the forefront of pet CBD. Check out our long line of CBD pet products including dog and cat drops for pain relief, anxiety, and overall wellness. All of our pet products contain zero traces of THC and are made with organic hemp. Stay tuned for exciting announcements regarding Hempzilla pet products.

The CBD industry is not going anywhere anytime soon. According to research conducted by market research firm 360 Market Updates, the CBD industry will increase in value from $553.7 million in 2020 to an estimated $4.3 billion in 2026.

If that estimate is correct, the CBD will grow exponentially in just the next five years. The rising popularity in CBD has many who suffer from sleeplessness, pain, and anxiety thinking about hopping on the CBD train.

Although CBD has been clinically proven not be an addictive substance by the World Health Organization, many on the fence about CBD are asking: how long does CBD stay in your system?

So, How Long Does CBD Stay In Your System?

The official answer is that CBD typically stays in your system for 2 to 5 days although it’s important to remember each person will react differently. CBD directly affects the Endocannabinoid system by manipulating both the CB1 and CB2 receptors.

CB1 receptors are primarily responsible for regulating the central nervous system, memory, mood, appetite, and more.  CB2 receptors are located throughout the body and regulate inflammation, pain, and the peripheral nervous system.

How Long Does CBD Stay In Your System When Taken As The Following?:

Vape:

CBD that is inhaled through hemp cigarettes or vape pods directly enters the bloodstream leading to an immediate effect.

CBD that is inhaled is great for those suffering from onset anxiety looking for a fast-acting remedy.

While the amount inhaled will affect how long CBD will stay in your system, most inhaled CBD will leave the system by the fifth day.

Tincture:

CBD tincture is created by infusing cannabis leaves with alcohol.

This infusion generates a potent liquid that can then be taken orally. Tinctures are typically ingested by tube under the tongue.

The tincture drop is then dissolved by the mucus membrane.

Tincture drops usually take longer to take hold than vape, but most people begin to feel their effect between 15 and 30 minutes after ingestion and leave the body between one and seven days after ingestion.

Edibles:

Unlike inhalants and tincture, edibles will take longer to take effect and leave the body. This is due to the fact that edibles must travel through the digestive system first before the CBD effects can work their magic.

If you ingest CBD on an empty stomach, you may find that the CBD will work faster than if you ingest the same amount on a full stomach.

CBD that is ingested can take anywhere between 30 minutes and a few hours to set in and will be out of your system from anywhere between 1 week and 1 month.

How Long Does CBD Stay In Your System When Affected By:

Gender:

Although studies support the fact that men and women are affected by CBD differently, there is no clear difference between men and women when it comes to how long CBD stays in the body.

Women typically respond to CBD far better than men. For instance, women typically find CBD to be much better at reducing pain than men.

This could be due to the heightened levels of estrogen that women possess in comparison to men, but research so far has been inconclusive.

Body Mass:

The higher someone’s body mass, the higher of a dose they may require of CBD. Other factors such as your water content and metabolism also play a role in how long CBD stays in your system.

Regularity of CBD Use:

Those who use CBD on a regular basis will find that over time, they will likely need to increase their dose as their body becomes more adapted to CBD and is able to process it more efficiently.

CBD will also build up in your body if used over a long enough period of time

Dosage:

The greater the dose of CBD, the longer it will stay in your body. Most people who take CBD typically take a dose between 20mg and 1500mg.

Someone who tends to take a higher dose of CBD will find that it takes longer for the CBD to leave their body because there is simply more CBD the body needs to process than at a lower dose.

How Long Does CBD Stay In Your Dog’s System?

Your dog’s reaction to CBD is strongly associated with the same factors that affect people. Their weight, activity level, frequency of CBD intake, and biochemical makeup all play a role in the effect of CBD.

According to experts, CBD will typically be out of your dog’s system within 24 hours of intake. Keep in mind that the dose is closely tied with how long CBD will remain in your dog’s system.

When starting your dog on CBD, make sure to start out with a low dose to see how your dog reacts first. If they appear to take the first dose well, only then should you consider increasing the dose.

Always consult with your veterinarian first before administering CBD.

CBD taken by dog

CBD and Drug Testing:

CBD-infused products will typically not show up on a drug test. But make sure your CBD products are not infused with THC. As the main compound in Marijuana, THC is most associated with the “high” feeling people experience when smoking or ingesting the drug.

The way to find out if your CBD contains THC is by checking the label to see what kind of CBD it is. Full-spectrum CBD contains all naturally occurring compounds from the extraction process including THC.

Broad-spectrum CBD undergoes a process to eliminate the THC content. CBD-isolate only contains CBD.

 Wrapping It Up

So, how long does CBD stay in your system? The truth is that the answer varies depending on a multitude of variables. How you take CBD, your gender, the dose, body mass, and frequency all play a role in your body’s response to CBD.

It’s also important to research multiple CBD brands before making your purchase. Unlike most brands, Hempzilla’s products are made entirely in the USA and their manufacture is overseen by a full-time PHD biochemist.

Hempzilla was also the first CBD brand to earn FDA registered GMP certifications and use organic practices. You can check out our award winning products here!

Chronic pain is a debilitating condition that affects people of all ages and backgrounds around the world. In the United States alone, chronic pain was reported to affect 20.4% of adults in the United States as of 2019. For those with more severe chronic pain, 7.4% of adults suffered in a way that inhibited their day-to-day life. It’s our goal at Hempzilla to educate our customers and share the latest research and CBD news with you so you can make informed decisions as a consumer.

Is CBD as a treatment for chronic pain?

Before we discuss the clinical study on CBD as a treatment for chronic pain, let’s talk about opioid use for chronic pain. with In order to help with the treatment and management of chronic pain, many patients are prescribed opioids. Opioids are a class of drugs that bind to opioid receptors in the brain and central nervous system. When interacting with these receptors, opioids have the potential to create feelings of pleasure or excitement, and aid in pain relief. While there are potential benefits to opioids (such as analgesia, aka pain relief), they can also have major adverse effects such as respiratory depression, sedation, tolerance, physical dependence, addiction, and overdose. As a result, there has been an increase in efforts to find potential alternatives.

In recent years, the use of cannabidiol (CBD) for treating chronic pain has become one popular alternative. CBD is an active ingredient from in cannabis plants but unlike traditional marijuana, it contains no traces of THC and is not psychoactive in nature. The study highlighted in this post aims to show how CBD can be used as a safer, more effective alternative to opioids and ultimately improve the quality of life in patients suffering from bouts of chronic pain. CBD is a potentially useful alternative because it does not have the risks that opiods have such as respiratory depression, sedation, physical dependence, addiction, and overdoseing. There are a lot of people that could be helped by CBD use on a regular basis. Let’s learn more about the clinical study lead by Alex Capano

The study, which took place over the course of eight weeks, involved 97 patients (ages 30 to 65) who had been using opioids to treat chronic pain for at least one year. The effectiveness of CBD was measured by seeing how it impacted opioid use and the following four areas: Pain Disability Index (PDI-4); Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Pain Intensity and Interference (PEG); and Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-4).

Notable Results from the CBD Clinical Study:

Conclusion of the CBD study for chronic pain use

CBD could significantly reduce opioid use and improve chronic pain and sleep quality among patients who are currently using opioids for pain management.*

Many believe cannabidiol (CBD) hemp extract has the potential to assist those with chronic pain

Whether that means breaking away from opioid use or improving their ability to complete everyday tasks. CBD hemp products are also legal in all 50 states as long as they contain less than 0.3% THC, making them a more accessible solution. This study shows that CBD can serve a potentially successful alternative for managing chronic pain due to its ability to reduce or eliminate opioid use in chronic pain patients. Our own CBD ambassador, Amy Nicklaus, joined Kathy Ireland on Modern Living with Kathy Ireland®* to discuss how Hempzilla CBD is working with sustainable USA farmers to be a trustworthy resource for consumers, and how our transparency and purity has made us an industry leader for the last five years.

When Hempzilla CBD opened its doors in 2015, we set out to offer customers expertise, quality control, and efficacy during a time when shelves were (and still are) flooded with products claiming all kinds of impressive results with nothing to back up their claims.

“The primary focus for everyone at Hempzilla is purity. With purity comes potency, and a potent, effective product is the only one that we will put our name behind. To ensure that it meets our standards and to provide full transparency to consumers, all products are tested by 3rd-party chemists in state-of-the-art GMP and ISO Cetrified labs. Purity from contaminants, trace heavy metals, solvents, micro-bacteria, mycotoxins, an absolutely any traces of THC is what we are constantly testing for.” – Amy Nicklaus, CMO

The hemp plant is small, but it’s a largely untapped powerhouse. With over 113 different cannabinoids and 200 plus terpenes, there’s a huge opportunity for companies to provide consumers with a holistic, healthful product when manufactured correctly. The problem is that many companies don’t have a team of experts on board, so they cut corners that seriously diminish the quality of the product and, in turn, the efficacy.

Hempzilla CBD saw this gap widening as CBD became more mainstream, and has been working hard to educate consumers on what to look for and expect in a CBD product. That hasn’t always been easy, but it’s necessary if someone wants to really harness the power of CBD in a beneficial way.

Amy Nicklaus discusses sustainable hemp farming and the importance of lab testing CBD products with Kathy Ireland.

Even though hemp has been used in holistic medicine for decades, it really didn’t break into the US mainstream market until around 2015. At that time, Hempzilla teamed up with organic USA farmers and a team of scientists to really explore the potential for CBD, and the results were staggering. We’ve seen this plant do AMAZING things when manufactured correctly.

While there are a lot of clinical lab tests still running, hundreds of thousands of CBD users across the US have boasted about how they use CBD regularly for anxiety, inflammation, arthritis, pain relief, and much more.

Many companies don’t take the necessary steps to maintain the quality of the plant, though, and that can result in products that essentially don’t do anything. This has turned some people off to CBD because they don’t think it works for them when, in reality, CBD does work. That’s why the company you purchase your CBD from is essential.

“We work directly with organic sustainable farmers and our labs are right here in the USA, so we control every aspect of how our products are made, unlike most of the industry, which gives us a distinct advantage.” – Amy Nicklaus, CMO

At Hempzilla, we take a lot of pride in the growth of our hemp

Our CBD starts as hemp flower organically grown in Colorado under the Colorado Department of Agriculture. Each plant is never exposed to pesticides or GMOs and is naturally fed by nutrient-rich Rocky Mountain water until it reaches maturity. From there, it is ethically hand-picked and hand-trimmed. This gives us an incredible base product to turn into everything, including tinctures, pet treats, and premium raw flower.

For anything that includes CBD oil, such as tinctures and topicals, we use a clean CO2 extraction method that helps remove heavy metals and impurities, which many companies leave behind. We don’t believe in cutting any corners when it comes to our products. That’s key.

Our gold standard quality CBD is where all of our competitors have fallen short

On Modern Living with Kathy Ireland, Amy discussed how Hempzilla CBD uses several different hemp strain genetics during cultivation to get well-rounded cannabinoid content in our finished products. It has always been important for us to have seed-to-table traceability to ensure every step of our process meets our standards at all times. The gold standard quality we have is where all of our competitors have fallen short, and that can be dangerous to allow in the marketplace.

“Hempzilla was the first brand in the CBD industry to boast that we had FDA registered GMP certifications, used organic practices, and built sophisticated ISO certified, pharmaceutical grade formulation and extraction labs.

We’re also one of the few companies who have a full-time PhD biochemist on staff to oversee all testing and ensure that our products contain less than .3% Delta-9 THC and are micro-bacteria free.” – Amy Nicklaus, CMO

Testing is one of the biggest components of what we do because it’s such an important element for quality-control. At Hempzilla CBD, we follow Good Manufacturing Practices, also referred to as GMP, in an ISO 6000-rated lab. This means that our products must pass rigorous evaluations and maintain a high, consistent standard in order to pass into the hands of consumers. We test for quality, potency and stability in an area of the industry that still suffers neglect and, in some cases, dishonesty, even with some larger national brands.

Hempzilla CBD is pure and potent

Hempzilla CBD Modern Living with Kathy Ireland Lab

Potency is a difficult thing to understand for the consumer. It’s always been assumed that the higher the milligram strength of a product, the more potent it will be, but that’s not entirely true. For example, Hempzilla’s 500mg products perform five times better than our competitor’s 1500mg products.

That is partly because Hempzilla CBD uses methods of extraction to keep our golden CBD oils in their most natural state so we don’t damage the medicinal molecules this plant has to offer. We also use only the best ingredients from top suppliers in the U.S. to create synergistic blends. Being that our products are broad-spectrum with that level of potency, there’s the creation of the famed “entourage effect” that’s so coveted in the industry. When producing CBD products, the goal is to keep as many of these molecules (cannabinoids) as possible in their natural state with the exception of the THC molecule, which is responsible for psychoactive effects.

Removing this one molecule and leaving all the others is considered broad-spectrum. On the other hand, if we were to leave the THC molecule, it would be considered full spectrum. Most products strip away all of the molecules in a harsh process called isolation or isolates. This process, although it’s cheaper, ends up stripping away most of the medicinal qualities, resulting in little to no beneficial effects.

This is why many first-time CBD users who buy cheaper products complain that they didn’t work. We have heard countless experiences of individuals who tried CBD and thought it didn’t work, but tried Hempzilla CBD products and were shocked at the difference.

What’s the science behind CBD?

The first thing that’s important to note is that hemp contains over 100 cannabinoids that are similar to what our bodies naturally produce. People and some pets, such as dogs, produce endocannabinoids that bind to endocannabinoid receptors. Endocannabinoids are essential and have been noted to play a part in our immune system responses, memory, mood, and more. By taking CBD, you’re increasing the amount of cannabinoids readily available to your endocannabinoid system.

One example of how CBD can benefit the body is its effect on reducing inflammation in the body.

What are some of our most loved CBD Products?

Hempzilla CBD Modern Living with Kathy Ireland Pain Spray

Our Joint & Muscle Gel is the star of Hempzilla’s product line, being that it is a consistent top-seller and the product a majority of our customers purchase a subscription for. We regularly get reviews calling this a “miracle gel” and for good reason. Hempzilla’s CBD Bath Soaks are another loved product, available in Lilac, Eucalyptus, Mango, Unscented, and Nighttime. They’re great for anyone looking to ease muscle tension, melt away everyday stress, and get a better night’s sleep. They are also completely free of dyes and harsh chemicals and contain a blend of natural ingredients, including Epsom salt, coconut oil, natural fragrances, and pure, broad-spectrum CBD. With CBD industry exploding in popularity, more and more people are looking for ways to incorporate it into their daily routines. From beauty products to nutraceuticals, there’s a wide variety of different CBD products for wellness available on the market.

CBD (cannabidiol) is a natural supplement extracted from the cannabis plant that helps you unwind. While there is little research to prove CBD products for wellness offer any benefits, the interaction of CBD with the human endocannabinoid system has be associated with helping to reduce inflammation, support happier mornings, and soothe sore joints and muscle. CBD is also a popular alternative to other ailment solutions because most products contain no traces of THC, thus eliminating psychoactive properties and the feeling of being “high.”

CBD products for wellness can be taken orally or applied topically, and is available in a variety of forms, such as tinctures, pre-rolls, gummies, and bath soaks. To help you make an informed decision on which CBD products for wellness align best with your lifestyle, we’ve reviewed a few CBD products that will help boost your daily routine and leave you feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to take on the world!

1.) CBD Bath Soaks

Why CBD Bath Soaks hempzilla

Long day? We feel that. Our most trusted solution? A long bath infused with CBD Bath Soaks!

Baths are an easy way to incorporate wellness into your daily routine. They can help improve circulation and skin health while providing sensory stimulation, especially after a stressful work week. When it comes to the CBD Bath Soak, the warm water actually opens the pores to allow more CBD to be absorbed into the skin. On top of this, many CBD Bath Soaks are infused with essential oils, including eucalyptus, orange, and , which carry their own benefits for a well-rounded, relaxing CBD bath experience.

CBD has also been studied for its effects on the skin — particularly in relation to moisturizing and combatting acne. This is due to CBD’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that promote healthier skin cells.

2.) CBD Honey Sticks

cbd honey sticks

A healthy diet can help to keep your skin looking its best by fending off free radicals and providing essential nutrients for maintaining a youthful appearance. One of our favorite ways to do this is by brewing a cup of tea and adding in 1-2 CBD honey sticks! For some inspiration, here’s a tea recipe we’ve been loving lately:

This easy recipe will help jumpstart your day with some natural energy! Before taking a sip, try adding a bit of creamer or milk into your tea to help boost the effectiveness of the honey sticks. This is because fat-based foods like butter, creamers and milk are quickly processed by our bodies, so when we ingest such fat-based foods with CBD products for wellness, it helps absorb them more effectively!

You can also substitute the type of tea you are using for chamomile or sleepy-time to help you relax and unwind in the evening!

3.) CBD Tinctures

While many will take CBD tinctures straight from the dropper, they are also great for mixing in with your favorite water-based foods or drinks!

Whether it’s soups, pasta sauces, or salad dressings, we recommend using an unflavored tincture to avoiding altering the taste of the meal. You can also add CBD tinctures (unflavored or flavored!) to coffee and smoothies for an energizing morning boost or post-workout refuel. The great thing about using CBD products for wellness like tinctures is that they are effective, but don’t produce the downsides of caffeine, such as jitters or anxiety.

If you prefer getting your CBD tincture straight from the bottle, Hempzilla has a variety of potent options to choose from! Formulated exclusively with health and well-being in mind, our powerful CBD + CBG Wellness Tincture is infused with antioxidant-packed ginger and has a light and refreshing ginger-lemon flavor that is perfect for anytime of the day!

For all the ladies in the place…Hempzilla’s Citrus Vanilla CBD Flow Tincture is the perfect “that time of the month” pick-me-up! Made with evening primrose oil, which may help with PMS symptoms like bloating and cramps**, and  Lavender, Ginger, Lemon Balm, and Clary Sage essential oils, this formula is the ultimate PMS support tincture.

4.) CBD Topicals

hempzilla Joint and Muscle CBD line

We often forget that our bodies are not just made of bones, muscles, and organs. Our skin is the largest organ on our body which makes up over 15% of our total weight. Adding topical CBD products for wellness is a great, all-natural way to maintain your healthy glow!

CBD products for wellness have a lot of potential benefits when it comes to working on your skin from the inside-out. In addition to protecting against natural environmental damage and inflammation with its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, CBD can also promote healthy cells by encouraging cell turnover while preventing collagen breakdown as well as excessive oil production.

When figuring out which CBD product for wellness is best suited for your skin, it’s important to evaluate your daily lifestyle and routine. If you’re someone who lives in the sun all year or loves spending time on the slopes in the winter months, try a CBD hand and body lotion! Perfect for any climate, a CBD lotion can be just what you need to soothe sun damaged skin or beat dry, cracked skin that has weathered colder elements. Chances are, it probably smells pretty amazing too!

CBD has also made a name for itself in the facial skincare realm. If you’re always on the go, battling with sensitive skin, or simply need a daily skincare regimen revamp, CBD-infused skincare products might be right for you! As previously mentioned, some research has been done in relation to its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to reduce sebum production — the waxy, oily substance that, when overproduced, can trigger acne.

For those who love inked skin and keeping the appearance of tattoos bright and moisturized, check out Hempzilla’s CBD Fresh Ink Tattoo Cream. Along with the natural benefit of moisturizing fresh or aging tattoos, the cream is anti-inflammatory and anti-itch to help minimize any irritation caused by tattoos.

As the CBD industry continues to expand, you might find yourself turning to CBD products for wellness to enhance your daily routine. Just be sure to read up on the product ingredients and standard to ensure transparency and top-quality CBD!

Sports injuries are common, especially in football. As athletes age and continually go through the wear and tear of the game, their bodies become more susceptible to injury and experience longer recovery times. Most of the time, sports-related injuries are typically treated with traditional opioid painkillers that are addictive in nature. Recognizing the risks that can stem from opioid use, the NFL has decided to look into alternative methods for treating pain. One possible solution they’re considering is CBD for athletes, which is thought to have anti-inflammatory properties that can aid in recovery and pain relief after strenuous activity.

CBD for Athletes: NFL Considers CBD for Injury Relief

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, athletes and sports competitors suffer more than 2,000 injuries per 10,000 workers. When an athlete pushes their body to its limits, they exert a greater amount of stress, which causes the endocannabinoid system to go into overdrive. The endocannabinoid system is a network of neurons and synapses throughout the human body and brain that is thought to modulate inflammation and other immune responses. Therefore, when the body undergoes excessive pressure, it is likely the system will respond with inflammation.

So, where does CBD  for athletes come in? CBD is the non-psychoactive component of cannabis that contains cannabinoids. The endocannabinoid system also emits and responds well to cannabinoids on its own. By introducing CBD to the body, it acts as an endocannabinoid system regulator that binds with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the system. CB1 receptors are located in all tissues, the spinal cord, and the brain, and mainly impact the nervous system. CB2 receptors are mainly found in the immune system tissues and support anti-inflammation. Each receptor responds differently to CBD and produces different effects within the body, but ultimately our bodies respond well to the extra cannabinoids in CBD because our bodies already love them!

As CBD has exploded in popularity, more athletes have been implementing it into their daily routines.

Currently, CBD for athletes is allowed in the following leagues*:

CBD for Athletes: NFL Considers CBD for Injury Relief

CBD For Athletes and NFL Pain Management Committee

When it comes to the NFL, the NFL-NFLPA Pain Management Committee (PMC) came out with a request for industry research on opioid alternatives in February 2021. The purpose of the committee is to “establish uniform standards for club practices and policies regarding pain management and the use of prescription medications by NFL players.”Looking to expand their knowledge on pain management and athletic performance in NFL players, the committee’s request seeks out qualified researchers who can help them with this goal by conducting studies that may explore:

  1. Other medications and non-pharmacological options that are considered alternatives to opioids in routine pain management of NFL players.
  2. How cannabis or cannabinoids would affect athletic performance in NFL players.
  3. Other medications and non-pharmacological options that are considered supplements in routine post-surgical orthopedic pain management in NFL football players.

This request also comes after the NFL issued a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) in early 2020. The new CBA included various amendments and a new drug policy, which would prevent players from being suspended due to cannabis or cannabinoid use. The change includes a shorter testing period (two weeks at the start of training camp instead of four weeks), an increased threshold for the amount of THC (from 35 nanograms to 150 nanograms), and a new review system for any rule violations (with a greater focus on supporting the well-being of NFL athletes). To highlight the new method of review, this means that if an NFL player tests positive for drugs during the two-week stretch of training camp, their test is reviewed by a board of medical professionals. Once the player’s use of a substance is evaluated, the neutral party decides if a player is okay to return or if treatment is needed for this player to overcome such issues.

CBD and the NFL’s Focus on Mental Health

Ultimately, this new method shows how the NFL is working to focus more on their players’ mental health by meeting those who might need help with substance abuse with support instead of punishment. All of these changes are big developments in the world of sports, as it means players can continue using cannabis and CBD for athletes without the fear of suspension.

Beyond its potential as a pain relief alternative, CBD for athletes is also great because of:

CBD for Athletes: NFL Considers CBD for Injury Relief

Every time a player takes to the field, they assume the risks associated with the game. In 2010, for example, there were 154 reported concussions in the National Football League’s (NFL) first half of the season and pre-season alone. But athletes deserve to be on top of their game. If the NFL and other sports leagues were to introduce CBD for athletes as an alternative to regular painkiller treatments, their players are more likely to maintain a safe, healthy balance in their body and find relief from the results of a high-pressure environment.

*This list is not comprehensive. Each league also upholds its own specific regulations regarding the use of CBD. Not all regulations are listed and regulations are subject to change.
